Here is our topic list by month from our first year. We changed this going into the second year based on need, feedback and new complexes working with the modules.

August: Audience Centered Speaking to prepare for first floor meeting.

September: SMART Goal Setting.

October: MBTI and Group Dynamics.

November: Future Resume as a Goal Setting and Clarification Tool.

December: Staff team roles and goals. Self and peer evaluations.

January: Great team minds think differently. How conflicting opinions can help group decision making.

February: Leadership theory (Social Change Model; this last year we changed to the 5 Exemplary Practices of Leadership)

March: Mindfulness in the RA position and personal life,

April: Team contributions and recognition as a form of leadership.

May: Reflection on learning, identifying gains to share with future employers/grad schools, and connecting the modules.

First Floor Meeting Preperation

An RA's fiorst floor meeting can be an intimidating moment. This module was created by Rebecca Krylow and focuses on Audience Centered Speaking. This module benefited staff by helping them prepare for their first floor meeting and providing them some concrete tactics to improve their public speaking skills.

Sept Module Prezi

We have been piloting a learning-outcomes based staff development module program. We are currentlly in our second year and I created this Prezi as an intro to the Sept Module that introduced our over-arching leadership development theory (The 5 Exemplarly Leadership Practices by Kouzes and Posner) and SMART Goal Setting.

Each RA watched this on their own before they began the module. I created this to replace an artcle on leadership to make it more visually appealing. I utilized text from the Student Leaderership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner for the Prezi.

Your Personal Best Starts Here: Sept Module

Our first module has been considered one of our most helpful by our "Module Alumni" as it focuses on SMART goals and leadership. The language and topics in this module have been used in interviews and by our staff as new professionals.

Group of Individuals: October Module Part 1

RAs work in many different groups and we wanted group dynamics to be address. This module included two parts and was one of our more experimental modules. The MBTI section was well received while the PBL portion (Group Dynamics in the Real World) was not. PBL or Problem Based Learning is used in classroom and that was the push against it from the staff.
